A New Look: Eyelash and Eyebrow Tinting

1287507622 82 A New Look: Eyelash and Eyebrow TintingI’m actually quite new to eyelash tinting, but I did do a lot of research and tested a lot of brands before having the tint done.

Before considering a lash tint, I looked into the procedure and what it involved.

The general idea seemed to be:
- a consultation about the kind of tint you want and a chance for you to get to know the beautician who is going to carry out the tint procedure
- You decide what kind of tint you want, what you want tinting
- a patch test to find the best tint for your skin (there are a number of brands and formulations out there so it’s best to try a few)
- a 48 hour period with the tint on the skin to ensure a thorough test
- Ensuring your brows are well groomed to the shape you’re happy with

And if everything works out, then you get to the appointment to Get Tinted:
- You lie down and relax
- if you have albinism like me, you can get them to dim the lights!
- Your lashes and eyebrows are cleaned with an oil free cleanser to ensure there are no barriers for the dye when it’s developing
- Petrolium jelly is used to line around the areas where you don’t want the tint to take (skin around eyes and brows)
- the beautician mixes up the Tint – many use a mix of brown black
- a couple of cotton pads are placed under your lashes for comfort and to catch any drips from the dye
- the beautician then begins to apply the tint first to lashes then to brows
- the dye is left to develop on the lashes for 10 minutes
- if your eyes begin to sting, get them to take it off – it may damage your lashes, skin and eyes!
- After 10 minutes the beautician removes the tint and checks the colour result
- if it’s fine, then you’re done and they’ll give you an extra pad with cleanser to make sure you can get all the dye off yourself
- if it’s not taking then the dye may not be right for your lashes and brows; these hairs are different to the hair on our head, so this may be a bit hit or miss
- if the colour hasn’t taken, you may want to try and do another layer of tint, but if your eyes are too sore; leave it! Try another brand of dye instead – start with a patch test if trying another dye
- if you haven’t got the results you wanted, you don’t have to pay for the treatment

If you want to get this done, remember that the procedure is not yet fully approved as ‘Safe’, but it’s also not illegal to do it. approach an experienced salon who employ excellent staff – don’t go for the cheap option! Invest in a great beautician who you trust and can talk to openly. You have the right to say you don’t like something – don’t feel pressured into a procedure you’re not happy with.

Do your research into dyes used before going for a lash and brow tint and try and find others who have had this done at that same salon and get their feedback. Nowadays, the internet is great for this. always review a salon or beautician if you found the experience was great or rubbish – this will help others in the future!
