Taking time to put on make-up? It’s so 2001!

THOSE dark autumn mornings mean it can be a struggle finding the time to make up your face. as you squint bleary-eyed into your mirror, with the sound of the rain beating against your window, it can be difficult to muster much enthusiasm for personal grooming. however, if you only have the energy to lift an eyebrow brush, don’t fret – the minimal look is in. All you need is a good base (sheer foundation or a lightly-tinted moisturiser), earthy-toned blusher and either a lick of mascara or a smudge of colour on your lips. the best thing about this look is if anyone says: “could you not be bothered with make-up this morning?’’ you just reply: “I’m very this season. That Jodie Marsh look of yours is so 2001.’’ Another timeless winter look is red lipstick. There are some fabulous shades out there for all skin colours and it is the quickest, most effective way or perking up your features faced with grim, grey, Copeland weather. Stepping out for 25 years WHILE many find it a challenge to last 25 minutes in a keep-fit class, Whitehaven’s Lynda Ridley has been working out for 25 years. the fitness teacher is celebrating a quarter of a century flattening stomachs and toning thighs, helping hundreds of people lose thousands of calories. Lynda first started in 1985 when Jane Fonda was all the rage in her leg warmers. “I took one class a week, with three or four people, in Arlecdon Hall,’’ she explained. “I was really pleased if any more turned up!’’ Luckily, people warmed to her calorie-burning work-outs and at one point Lynda found herself teaching 115 people in a line-dancing class and 80 for her Callanetics sessions. over the years she has also taught aerobics, circuit training and boxercise, once training Wath Brow Hornets rugby team. “I’m pleased to say they didn’t wear the leotards and headbands which were in fashion at that time!’’ she said. “Sometimes it is hard to get motivated after 25 years of teaching every week, but when I get to the class and get started, the music and adrenaline gets pumping and there’s no stopping me.’’ Lynda offers her class member an easy or a harder option so they can just work at their own pace. “if they want to jog they can, if not they can walk. It’s all good exercise at the end of the day.’’ She now teaches her classes each Monday and Wednesdays from 5.30-6.30pm in Cleator Moor Civic Hall. Sessions include a warm-up, legs, arms, boxercise, aerobics, stomach work and cool down. “ I love it when the girls come to me at the end and tell me how much they’ve enjoyed it and how they can feel the difference in themselves in a few short weeks,’’ Lynda explained. “it also keeping me fit at the same time and I’m meeting new people.’’ Inner peace by the harbour FINDING inner peace is the aim of Monday night meditation classes held at Whitehaven’s old Customs House. Running until December 13 (except October 25) from 7.30pm, these informal sessions are taken by Buddhist teacher, Kelsang Yankyi. They include breathing meditation, a short talk, meditation and discussion. the cost is £5 and includes refreshments. Topics covered in the next two months include learning to cherish others, abandoning negativity, dealing with difficulties and development a mind of compassion.
