Does shiny scalp mean no more hair can grow there?
I am a childhood cancer survivor and I have been through many treatments for my cancer, including a bone marrow transplant. I developed a disease called Graft vs host disease after my transplant and it cause a lot of skin problems for me. especially on my scalp. I had a lot of rashes and it was peeling alot….I know it sounds nasty.
Well I've been cancer free for 10 yrs and I have patches of bald spots on my head, I don't have much hair and its very fine and curly…I don't like to wear wigs and I've been basically just walking around wit my hair like this and sometimes wear a hat. I use to not care about how I looked and if ppl starred but now I want to have a head full of hair and do stuff with it. I'm 23 yrs old and I'm going to be getting married next year.
My scalp is shiny and smooth…I heard that if your scalp is shiny then hair can no longer grow there.
If you or if you know anyone that has had the same problem and found a way to grow their hair back it would be great.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.
I'm not an oncologist, but in general that's right. Cancer and treatments are different though as they involve some short-term chemical changes to the body that can reverse. I assume you still have follow-ups, so I would just ask at the next one. Avoid any over-the-counter or internet medication though (Progain etc) as they have hormonal implications that should be considered in the light of your history. I assume your prospective husband is aware of everything so there's no reason it should affect your relationship and future. Best wishes.
