Dubious Parenting on Living
Yet again, both televisions were occupied last night, and the oh so familiar drone of Vuvuzelas boomed around my house. In fairness, it is a rare occasion that my dad invites his friends over to watch TV, and the thoughts that the football was finally coming to the end was somewhat comforting. Despite the fact that my TV schedule only properly resumed at 9pm, I still managed to stumble upon a gem of a show.
‘Kids Who Have it All’ on Living (or more appropriately ‘Parents that should know better’), is one of those programmes that would make you cringe, and then make you pray to the high heavens that your kids never turn out to be like these spoilt brats. it was flabbergasting watching these mini adults (who were all under 11-years-old) flaunt their extravagant lifestyle so freely, and spend hundreds of pounds without even batting a few fake eyelashes. their lack of appreciation for money and sheer naivety about ‘the real’ world was extremely worrying. Yet, as much as I was highly irritated by these snobby children, it wasn’t entirely their fault that they were unbelievably vain and out of control (and the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree).
It was unquestionable that for the majority of these children their massive egos stemmed from their parents (particularly the Mums) who were desperate to relive their youth through their precious offspring. take for example, Jade the mini ‘IT Girl’ and her mother (mutton dressed as lamb) Sally who is apparently bombarded by paparazzi on a daily basis due to her acting stint back in the sixties, not to mention her socialite status. Her desire for her impressionable daughter to live the life that she does (or wishes she had) was taken to the absolute extreme.
