THERE were a couple of tears but then a big smile as brave Theresa Cai, 14, had her long hair shaved off for charity at Asquith Girls High yesterday.

Theresa was joined by Kathryn Hooghuis, 13, and teachers Warren Bell and Matthew Barker, in losing their locks to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.

For a gold coin donation fellow students could watch the shave-off and cheer on the participants.

Four students won the chance to begin the shave, with the work being finished off by hairdressers from Hornsby’s E-Clips salon who gave their time for the event.

Kathryn admitted to feeling “a little bit’’ nervous beforehand.

“I really wanted to do it for charity,’’ she said.

Afterwards, she joked: “It will be a lot less time (getting ready) in the morning.’‘

Theresa worked tirelessly to organise the event with the help of Asquith teacher George Gutierrez, co-ordinator of the Student Representative Council.

After the shave, she felt “really weird’‘.

“My friend got me a beanie so it’s really cool,’’ she said.

The event raised $600 for the Leukaemia Foundation.
