Question about hair growth?

~Ang~ asked:

Ok, so here’s my question, I’ve always wondered this. We all have hair everywhere right. So as far as my arm hair, facial hair (eyelashes, eyebrows, etc.) even regular body hair that’s very tiny… if you shave it or cut it, it grows back right? But how does your hair know that it has to grow back? If I hadn’t cut it, it wouldn’t have gotten any longer, it would have just stayed the same. So how does it now when I cut it, that it has to grow?

Well when i did it didnt grow back. Course i am older and now I dont have to shave under my arms or legs. I think for me its just a hormonal thing. The only hair i cut is my head . It seems to grow back . Just dont cut anymore or shave.

This is a wild guess, but I am assuming when you cut the hair, oxygen is then released into the hair follicles and grows. When the end of the hair closes and does not accept oxygen, that is when it stops growing?
