As you know, I am partial to updos of all types – short hair updos, long hair updos, and those for medium length hair as well.  the updo is definitely a popular style for both formal as well as casual events.  Short hair updos in particular are trendy right now.  Yes I realize that updos are easier to create if you have long hair, but that should not stop you. No matter what hair length you have, there are some easy things you can do to achieve an elegant and sophisticated look. 

If you’re going for a traditional look, you could opt for something akin to the 1930’s pin up style.  Simply apply mousse or styling gel evenly throughout your damp hair and part your hair on one side.  while the mousse is setting, grab narrow sections of your hair, twist, and secure with hair pins.  do this until all of your hair is twisted and secured.  You could also optionally create a finger wave by securing your bangs with 2 hair pins.  Wait until it is dry, and then remove the front pins from your bangs. the finger-waves will stay and the little knots will embellish your hairstyle.

For a more modern look that works well with short hair, you could try the swept-up look.  all you need to do is apply volume-boosting mousse evenly throughout your damp hair, and blow it dry while brushing the hair up and away from your face and neck. 

The third option I will discuss is a little funkier.  First, brush your bangs straight down over your eyes.  Leave the bangs down for now.  For the rest of your hair, start from the top down and twist sections into little spirals, and secure them with pins. Continue until all of your hair is secured, and then finish with a straightening iron or a crimper on your bangs. this creates a fun and funky look you can customize just for you.
