the black panties: Shu Uemura Smoky Layers false eyelashes
A commonly overlooked item when it comes to makeup are false eyelashes. I’m sure some of us have never tried a pair for varying reasons…it took me a while to wear them in my teens because I didn’t know how to apply them. the other reason being I was afraid that I would lose my natural eyelashes if I applied them wrong (well I was like 15 when I thought this…forgive me) ahaha.
My first experience with false eyelashes was probably when I was 17 or 18 at a MAC makeover. it felt really weird and heavy. after that my eyes got used to their weight…although MAC lashes serve its purpose, I just wasn’t won over. I couldn’t explain why at the time, but I was like “meh” to the idea of false lashes.
When I first got into Shu Uemura, I knew they were known for their false eyelashes and eyelash curler. the associate who helped me at the time recommended the Smoky Layers. I thought “wow these are really pretty”. I just saw them in the box and bought them. I found out why I think they’re so pretty:
There’s two rows of lashes. the “bottom” row of lashes are longer and slightly curled. the lashes individually are thinner than MACs, so they look more like your natural lashes. the top row is shorter, but curl up a bit more. it gives your lashes awesome volume and drama without being too crazy over the top. it gives a beautiful feathery effect that I just adore.
On occasion I’ll use just accent lashes, but if I want go all out on lashes, I reach for these. They are my signature lashes and they are quite the attention grabber.
Price: $28, sold here. I know that they’re more expensive than your standard pair of MAC lashes, but a splurge won’t hurt anyone, especially these

A side view of the lashes. you can see here what makes them look SO COOL.

That’s a part of my face…excuse the red eye, but that’s an idea of how it looks on your eyes. This picture was taken from far away, so you can’t see the detail ;(
Amanda Johnson – Makeup Artist: Applying False Lashes – My Way
This blog post is all about applying false eyelashes, I apply false lashes at 95% of my makeup jobs and most of the time my clients have never worn them, and want to know how to apply them, so this is a how-to but my way.
For those of us that are not blessed with full sky-high lashes, thankfully False Eyelashes can make your eyes look bigger, fuller and more inviting, they come in various styles, colours and sizes. if you learn how to put them on correctly, no one will even guess that they are not yours, and plus they look Sexy !
So … What do you need ?
Small pair of small scissorsTweezersEyelash AdhesiveEyelash CurlerMascaraA pair of false eyelashes
I like to use Half Lashes, they only need to be applied to the outer corners of your eye, this is where most people want to add the little extra fullness, I reccommend Half lashes by Cara K, they come in 2 styles – Natural & Daring I use the natural styles for special occasions and on brides and the Daring Style for photoshoots and runway
Cara K – Half Lashes Natural Style
Cara K – Half Lashes Daring Style
Step One
Complete the entire eye makeup, gently curl your eyelashes using a eyelash curler and give a light coat of mascara
Step Two
Using tweezers, gently peel the eyelashes from the lash tray by holding them at the base of the band
Step Three
Apply a small dab of eyelash adhesive (latex) to your wrist or eyelash tray, Using a cotton tip, apply the adhsive to the eyelash band, Wait approximately 15 -30 seconds for the glue to become tacky, this will make it stick easier so it won’t slide around
(Note – if you are not sure if you are allergic to latex, place a small dab on your wrist as a tester before applying the lashes to your eyes and please don’t blow on the glue, if you are applying it on someone else, it’s unhygenic)
Step Four
Apply the lashes to the outer corners of the eye lid, bring the band as close to your natural lash line as possible (I use my fingers to do this as I find I have more control) and wait a few seconds for the glue to dry
Step Five
Apply another coat of mascara to blend the eyelashes together
(I work quite quickly, ensuring that the first coat of mascara in step one has not completely dried, otherwise it is a bit harder to blend them together)
and ….. Presto You did it !
If you find that you have any gaps between your natural lash line and the fake lashes, not to worry ! Fill the gaps with your eyeliner
You will find tutorials all over the internet on how to apply false eyelashes and many other makeup artist have their own technique, like I said in the beginning this is a How-To My Way !
I hope it works for you

How quickly will cut eyelashes grow back?
I just got my hair cut, and (while cutting my bangs) the lady cut my eyelashes by accident. has anyone else had a similar experience? How long did it take for them to grow back?
Eyelashes don't grow back, after the old ones fall out new ones grow in. So you are basically going to have to wait for the old, cut ones to fall out. And do not pull your eyelashes out thinking that new ones will grow back in their place because it does not work that way. Trust me, there was a girl in one of my classes that would pull out her lashes when she was stressed and now she has to wear false lashes, which you might want to do while waiting for yours to go through their cycle.
Losing an eye lash here and there happens to all of us. it is perfectly normal to lose one or two eyelashes. a new eye lash will grow back in the hair follicle and replace the old one. As a person ages their eyelashes tend to thin out, this is normal process. but, some people lose eye lashes in clumps and they do not grow back. If this happens suddenly, you may be feeling confused and afraid.
Here is what you should consider if you lose a lot of eyelashes at once.
Alopecia areata could be the cause of losing your eyelashes. it is an autoimmune disease usually striking the scalp and causing your hair to fall out in clumps. This hair does not grow back. it can also cause eye lashes and eye brows to fall out and not grow back. There is no cure, but a dermatologist can give you shots of cortisone to prevent further damage to hair follicles.
Eye lashes that are falling out in clumps is a good indicator that you may have hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is a condition of an underactive thyroid which causes
many complications and symptoms mostly in women. Get your thyroid checked by your doctor (he will do a simple blood test)and he can put you on medication to get your
thyroid back in gear and help alleviate sparse eye lashes.
Something that all of us can do to protect our eye lashes is to treat them with care. a lifetime of using an eyelash curler or pulling and playing with them can cause them to
fall out. Continual trauma to hair follicles can do permanent damage. only curl your lashes on special occasions or use one of the new curling wand mascaras to protect your eye lashes.
i hope this helped!!

Dang! you must have some long eyelashes for them to get cut. Right now Im using L'Oreal Lash boosting serum, its like 12 bucks for just the serum, available at any drugstore. it extends the lifetime of your lashes so instead of falling out every 15 weeks they stay in longer and thus grow longer and are healthy and thick. I was skeptical but its worked for me and is cheap!!! I would use that and a lengthening mascara like Long Pretty Lashes by Clinique =) Eeek to think she could have poked your eye!
They honestly wont grow back, you may well loose your eyelashes, because the cuticles are now damaged.
that sucks cuz im pretty sure they dont grow back…… i cant beleive she cut your eyelashes; thats pretty weird…..
they don't grow back
you better sure as he*l gotten your money back
How can I remove false eye lashes without removing my own? Help! ?
The girl seems to have attached them to my own lashes aswell as my eye lids and although im soaking them in oil my own lashes are falling out too. I start a new job on Monday so dont really want to turn up without eyelashes!!
I dont think youre applying them right, I wear then all the time and that never happens. youre only suppose to use a little bit of glue and after you apply the glue on the lashes blow on them for like 15 secs. also try the glue brand duo
but warm water should take that out
Use lukewarm water and try to get the false lashes to become unsticky so they'll come off.
get more false ones, thats the risk when you start with falseness

Natural-looking false lashes from Ardell, Gypsy Lashes and Andrea Modlash: Photos-galore
A couple of weeks ago, I ended up cruising online for natural-looking, fluttery false lashes (which is also how I ended up with my Dolly Wink lashes). Having survived much trial and error over the last year with different styles (hardly any made it onto the blog), I had already concluded that my favourite strip lashes were the graduated and spiky kind. my strip lash foes, on the other hand, were the types which were too uniform and/or too long at the outer ends. They just looked cheap on me.
I ended up buying seven pairs of lashes (see above photo): Ardell Demi Pixies, Babies, Luckies and Fairies; Gypsy Lashes #92 and #94; Andrea Modlash #53 and Duo Eyelash Adhesive in “dark“. I ordered from eyebeauty.co.uk where all pairs were between £2.99 and £3.99, and the Duo adhesive was £5.98.
I thought it would be useful to show how each of these lashes look when applied. sometimes false lashes surprise me and look much better (or worse) on my eyes than in the packaging.
All lash styles were soft and easy to apply and didn’t need trimming (saves time). all the Ardell and Andrea lashes state that they are “100% European human hair“. I personally don’t ask for that as a requirement in false lashes but some people might.
Before I go on, here is how my eyes look with just a single coat of mascara… blah…
Ardell Demi PixiesFrom the Ardell Invisiband natural range

Ardell Demi Pixies look a bit scary in the packaging because they’re so “stripy” as well as quite long and curly at the ends. But they are much nicer on, with the gaps not so apparent once on top of natural lashes. Out of all the lashes, these were the ones that made me say “wow” when I looked in the mirror. although they do have a bit of that spidery “pap shot of Cheryl Cole looking tired/stressed/teary” look about them. I don’t know why this style is in Ardell’s “natural” range as I would say they’re more for full-on glamour than a natural look. maybe because they’re “demi” (3/4 length) and not full length.
Ardell LuckiesFrom the Ardell Invisiband natural range

Ardell Luckies are my favourite for a true natural look. They’re much shorter than the others and taper down at the ends, and they’re perfectly arranged for a plush, full look. They give me the lashes that I’ve always dreamed of achieving with mascara but never quite managed. I reckon you could wear these without people knowing they’re fake. in fact, they’re so easy to wear that I wonder why I bother with mascara at all… I might as well just slap these on every morning (if I wasn’t so worried about my eyelashes falling out due to overuse of false ones).
Ardell BabiesFrom the Ardell Invisiband natural range

Ardell Babies are three quarter length strip lashes which are longer at the outer end. They’re identical to the Andrea Modlash #53 also in my order. They’re so natural-looking, you could almost miss them. This style doesn’t excite me much… they’re just a bit meek, like false lashes for beginners. I prefer the full and voluminous look of Ardell Luckies on my eyes. plus I’ve never really suited that feline extended-outer-corner look.
Ardell FairiesFrom the Ardell Invisiband glamour range

Ardell Fairies are similar to Ardell Luckies but much longer, a tiny bit less densely-packed, and with more variation in length between the short and long strands. the strands are slightly criss-crossed at the base. They achieve long, wispy lashes without being overly-dramatic and I like the way they’re shorter at the sides.
Gypsy Lashes #92
Gypsy Lashes style #92 are really pretty lashes. They’re full length, longer in the middle and shorter at the ends. They achieve a full look despite not being densely-packed. They have the same lash length as Ardell Fairies but I find them less interesting to look at.
Gypsy Lashes #94
Gyspy Lashes style #94 are different to all the other styles because they’re really dark and dense (almost opaque) at the base and not on “invisiband” spines. If there wasn’t the random variation in length, these could look really cheap. But instead, they give a striking, fluttery look which would really make the eyes stand out in photos. like my other favourites from the bunch, these are longer in the middle and shorter at the ends. Andrea Modlash #81 is an identical style which I didn’t manage to get hold of this time.
Andrea Modlash #53
Andrea Modlash style #53 are identical to Ardell Babies (further up the page) as far as I can tell!
Duo eyelash adhesive in dark tone
I hesitated before buying this tube of Duo eyelash adhesive because I’ve never had a problem with those tubes of Eylure glue that come with lash packs. But I now know why it’s the best-selling eyelash adhesive brand – you only need the tiniest amount for it to secure lashes onto the eyelid and it’s waterproof. plus the dark tone is great because any visible blobs will much less noticeable. I don’t agree with the thirty seconds they advise waiting before placing the lashes though. the glue would be dry in patches by then, risking the lashes peeling off later.
The full ingredients of Duo eyelash adhesive are:
Water, Cellulose Gum, Sodium Dodecylbenzenesulfonate, Rubber Latex, Fragrance (Parfum), Formalin Solution, Ammonium Hydroxide.
Application tips if you’re as bad at applying strip lashes as I used to be
I used to be the worst person ever at applying strip lashes but now it takes me just seconds. One thing I’ve found really helpful is to always use mascara on curled lashes before attempting to position the strip lashes. I used to think I could skip that step of the process, but I realised it’s essential because the mascara stiffens and neatens up my real lashes, rather than them being all wispy (frizzy?) and hindering my view of the base of my lashes. It also gives the false lashes more structure to rest on top of so that they’re less likely to be droopy or wonky.
When I’m ready to place the lashes, I find it easiest to hold the strip (on both ends) above my eye and behind my real lashes. then when I think the outer end lines up with the outer corner of my eye, I lower the strip down until the outer end is stuck down in the correct position. I then adjust the rest of the strip by handling the lashes with a finger and thumb until the spine is in place along the whole length (but not fully stuck down). Finally, I use either my ring finger or little finger to press the spine/band down securely from the outer to the inner end.
Some people use tweezers for the adjusting and then the blunt end of the tweezers to press along the spine, but I find I have my control with my fingers.
Don’t try to stick the spine on in one go… Start with the outer end first and move inwards.
The glue seems to make a massive difference too. I recommend Duo eyelash adhesive if you’ve struggled in the past with the standard white, gummy glue that comes in false eyelash packs.
Anyway…
I hope this post has been useful (seriously, I really hope so because it took me flippin’ ages to compile). do you find you stick to certain styles of false lashes too once you’ve found one you like?
By the way, I don’t wear false lashes that often in case you’re wondering. just on the occasional evening out when I can’t be bothered to fight with mascara on my stubbornly short and straight lashes. oh, and when I wrote “natural-looking” in the title, I meant relatively natural-looking… more like… less fake-looking if you know what I mean.
