Celebrities and industry figures reveal their good intentions on the fashion and beauty front for 2011. From wearing more colour to shaking up routines, seek inspiration for your own new Year style resolution.
new Year resolutions are never exactly a revelation. Quit alcohol, smoking or takeaways and take up the gym… the more cliched ones are usually the hardest to keep.
with the start of a new decade looming, why not maintain a style promise instead?
whether it’s vowing to religiously remove your make-up before bed or inject more colour into your wardrobe, an achievable resolution to make you look and feel better should spell the start of a gorgeous 2011.
Anti-ageing expert Nicky Hambleton-Jones agrees: “I am not a believer in ‘big’ new Year’s resolutions, it can be a pressure cooker striving to achieve life-changing goals like getting a new job, or losing a lot of weight – all within just one year!”
So ditch the over-ambitious resolutions you’ll forget after January 5th and kick off 2011 with a non-taxing fashion or beauty intention.
our celebrities unveil their style-led vows.
:: Organise outfits Coleen Rooney, designer for Littlewoods “My style resolution is to pick out my outfit the night before. with my own range from Littlewoods coming out in January and (son) Kai keeping me busier than ever, this will certainly make the mornings easier.”
:: Au naturel Cat Deeley, face of Pantene Pro-V Aqua Light “Less is more. If I don’t have to wear make-up, I don’t. If there’s no real reason to have my hair ‘done’, I leave it. I think if you look after yourself on a regular basis and do the prep before hand, you don’t need to put lots of effort into looking good.”
:: Beauty sleep Christina Aguilera, star of film Burlesque “Sleep – get plenty of rest. Sleep makes everything look and feel better – your hair, your skin, your nails, everything.”
:: Smart cuts Billie Piper, actress and star of Secret Diary of a Call Girl “I’m looking to embrace uniform next year, like tailored things. I’m quite boyish and I really like those long tailored skirts as well, but certainly shorts and ties and things like that – and loafers.”
:: Eye opener Katie Price, face of new Precious Love fragrance “HD Brows (www.hd-brows.co.uk). I think everyone should have HD Brows. It’s where you pluck and tint but do it differently from a normal tint and eyebrow shape.”
:: Stay true Jemma Kidd, make-up artist “Always wear make-up that suits you. It’s like clothes. If whatever is in fashion doesn’t suit you, don’t wear it. always be true to yourself.”
:: Wardrobe detox Konnie Huq, Xtra Factor presenter “The only detox I’m planning to do this January is that of my bulging wardrobe. I’m going to take all the clothes I never wear down to my nearest Cancer Research UK shop to make room for my Christmas presents.”
:: new hair Chantelle Houghton, star of new Chantelle’s Boot Camp Workout DVD “I really want to get my hair cut into a bob. I’ve never had short hair – and it’s nothing to do with having a ‘new man, new hair’. I really fancy a change.”
:: Re-hydrate skin Emma Willis, ambassador for Head & Shoulders “I really do need to drink more water. It might be boring but I know I don’t drink enough throughout the day so I’m really going to make the effort.”
:: Be adventurous Lynda Bellingham, Loose Women host “My fashion resolution is to be a bit more adventurous. I love my jeans, but I’m going to wear more skirts and dresses this year, and experiment with brighter colours in flattering fits that suit my shape.”
:: me time Evangeline Lilly, Lost actress and ambassador of L’Oreal Paris “What’s important in a woman’s life is having a bit of time in the day to pamper yourself. Even if it’s as simple as a bit of blush that makes you feel fresh, or changing the colour of your hair because it’s a fun new change and will make you feel excited and new.”
:: Curl pearl Trevor Sorbie, celebrity hair stylist “Curls are big for 2011. when curling your hair never blow dry your hair smooth with a nozzle or brush. always rough dry first, this way your hair will take the curl.”
:: Express yourself Helena Bonham Carter, actress and star of the King’s Speech “I never have fashion new Year resolutions. I guess it would be: try not to get my outfits disastrously wrong! I think I’ll just carry on, which is dressing up and having fun. you can’t take it too seriously and I don’t.”
:: Cleanse capers Betty Jackson, designer at Debenhams “My new Year’s resolution is to cleanse my skin thoroughly and remove all trace of the day’s make-up before going to bed. It’s one I make every year and spectacularly fail to keep it but it’s so much nicer to wake up in the morning with a clean face, so I’m going to try harder!”
:: Re-charge batteries Nicky Hambleton-Jones, anti-ageing expert of Lookandfeelyounger.tv “I plan to ensure I’m getting enough sleep each night. my son turns one in January and is at an age where he is more active so I want to keep my energy levels up by re-charging overnight. a good night’s sleep is also an anti-ageing must-have. when you’re sleeping, all the cells in your body repair and recover.”
:: Wear colour Celia Birtwell, fashion designer for Hotpoint “I do really need to wear a bit more colour, some people wear it very well, but unfortunately I’ve always tended to stick to black. I do have a bit of a penchant for coloured tights and socks, so coloured accessories might be a great introduction.”
:: Natural beauty Kimberly Wyatt, got To Dance judge “I want to pay attention to the kinds of products I’m putting on my skin – natural things. I have an all-natural make-up line coming out in the new year, called BM Beauty. It’s made from minerals which includes these powders that are beautiful for the skin but still give you that flawless look.”
:: Coconut shy George Lamb, TV presenter “I want to start regularly drinking coconut water again. I found it really made a difference to my skin and energy levels.”
:: Denim delve Grace Woodward, X Factor stylist and ambassador of Indesit ‘We Work you Play’ campaign “Streamline your denim. People always have piles and piles of jeans – have a try-on session. If you don’t like the wash or they don’t fit, get rid.”

faux eyelashes

` Where to get voluminous , good quality faux lashes ? And how to apply them on ? =]?
im a huge fan of false eyelashes. They make every girl look pretty ! I was just wondering , where can i get good quality faux lashes ? And how to apply them on ? Thanks ! Any help is greatly apprechiated !
I am a fan of makeupforever’s false lashes… they are incredible and the quality is superior than most i have used (i wear them almost daily). The tip to putting them on, is practice!!!! I can’t stress that enough… it really does take some technique, but if you practice for a week, you will get it!!
The one thing i do (incase my application skills are off) is to first line the upper lid with a black liner, that way, if you don’t apply them close enough to the lash line, it won’t look like a huge gap (and thus, look fake)… this is an important step!!!

eyelash extension supplies

What difference between eylash extensions and the one’s you get from Sally’s?
I want eyelash extensions and I see them for $100 or more and I see the one’s at Sally’s Beauty Supply for $6 for glue and eyelashes.
When properly taken care of, lash extensions typically last for about 6 weeks. A hair is glued to each of your lashes, making them LONGER. If you already have long lashes, this is not something that you would like. Overall, lash extensions are a very subtle change, plus you have to put a lot of trust in the person doing it. The person’s skill is the most important part which as you can imagine varies significantly from salon to salon.
False eyelashes are typically reserved for special occasions, and they provide perfect VOLUME. So if you don’t have many lashes, false eyelashes will give you that look you desire from the mascara ads. The downside is like you said, they’re temporary.
Personally, I think lash extensions are not worth it unless you have money to burn. Find a mascara that you like, and use false eyelashes if you’re going out.
