Tried and tested: A new eyelash treatment offering an alternative to mascara
Jemma Gofton gets all of a flutter trying out the new craze of lash dipping.
My love, hate relationship with mascara started in my teens.
I love it because the defining nature of it heads off questions about ill health and sleepless nights. I hate it because my dressing table is spewing out bottles that promise to lengthen, thicken and knock 20 years off me. (I know I’m an advertisers dream!)
The pursuit of fluttering eyelashes has seen me try semi permanent lashes through to falsies through to lash perming and everything in between.
So, when I heard that Aura Health and Beauty in Hopwood were offering Lash Dipping I was elbowing people out of the way to be first in line.
This procedure is fresh from the USA and Aura is one of the first salons to offer it in the North West. Lash Dipping is semi-permanent mascara that’s applied to both sets of lashes.
The product used is called ‘Cry Baby’ and the draw is that it lasts up to 3 weeks.
The procedure saw me relaxing on a heated bed for 30 minutes as therapist Jenny coated my lashes.
The amount of product applied is down to personal taste, so of course the diva in me went for ‘lather it on’. The only slight discomfort is from the fumes which can make your eyes water. At the end my lashes looked as if I’d applied a few layers of normal mascara resulting in my eyes looked wider and framed.
for the first 24 hours after the treatment you’re advised not to get your lashes wet or hot and going forward you need to use oil free eye make up remover.
With Christmas around the corner you may prefer a more dramatic look and it’s fine to apply your own mascara just as long as you avoid the waterproof variety. The product will gradually wear off and that’s when you need to return to the salon for a fresh application. I am also assured that it won’t damage my lashes.
after the 24-hour wait, I went to the gym for a boxing lesson, I swam in a pool and I had a bath – the mascara didn’t budge.
my naturally short, stubby and sparse lashes now have definition and a slight curl. I haven’t had to apply mascara since the treatment and the kohl look leaves me feeling comfortable enough go make up free.
Aura Health and Beauty are offering Lash Dipping for £35 and a full lash make over consisting of lash dipping, lash tint and eyelash lift for £69. Aura Health & Beauty, 3-5 Withington Street, Hopwood, OL10 2HQ 01706 629777.
