What is the Bosley hair transplantation procedure?
The first step is the procedure plan, which is a set of specific goals and plans for a patient’s procedure outlined by his or her physician. in this stage, the physician will determine the class and severity of hair loss and the number of grafts required. The physician will also ask the patient his or her desired hair results, and determine if it can be achieved with the estimated number of required grafts. The physician will let the patient know if more grafts are needed in the future to achieve the patient’s goals. The physician will also take into consideration the patient’s age, facial structure, existing hairline, quality of hair, and long-term expectations to create artistic goals for the patient.
Once the patient’s plan is confirmed, he or she will begin the hair restoration surgery, which begins with the administering of local anesthesia and the physician removing the donor strip. The donor area is then sutured; this will usually leave a thin scar that is easily concealed by the remaining hair.
In the third step- separation of follicular units- Bosley’s skilled surgical staff divides the donor strip into its follicular groupings, or units, each containing one, two, three or four hair follicles (a much more refined technique than plugs). next, the physician will prepare the recipient site by administering local anesthesia in the recipient area of the scalp, and then make a tiny incision for each individual follicular unit. The detailed attention to location, depth and angle ensures a completely natural-looking hairline and graft area. Finally, under the direction of the Bosley physician, the surgical staff will place grafts into the donor sites. One- and two-hair follicular units are placed in front, while three- and four-hair follicular units are placed at the top and back for maximum coverage and density. after all grafts are placed and the area cleaned, the procedure is finished.
