The latest poll shows that Kris Kobach is leading Democratic incumbent Chris Biggs in the race for Kansas secretary of state.
Using immigration as his hot-button topic, Kobach has built a lead, which should make the voting public wonder why Biggs is using his facial hair — or lack thereof — to try to sway votes, while increasing his campaign contributions.
the associated Press reports that Biggs is letting supporters decide whether he’ll regrow his mustache as a campaign fundraising gimmick. In an e-mail to supporters, the clean-shaven Biggs noted a recent television report on the race showed an old picture of him, with a mustache.
Biggs said people told him they liked the mustache.
Now he’s letting the contributions settle the issue.
Those who want him to again grow the mustache should give an even amount of money — say $100 — to his campaign. Those wishing for him to stay clean shaven should give an odd amount.
Biggs should stick to the issues while taking control of his own grooming habits. Now is not the time to get flippant. he needs to show he is focused on the pressing issues facing Kansas.
