Why would my cat lose hair if he has no other symptoms of illness?
One of my cats one day just started going bald on the base of his tail. He continued to lose hair on his butt, insides of his back legs, and a little on his belly. He has not been sick or acting different in any way at all. does anyone have any idea what would cause this?
Watch to see whether your cat is over-grooming itself. If so, it could be a sign of stress or an allergy. however a common problem with hair loss is hyperthyroidism. this is really difficult to diagnose as cats usually seem fine in themselves – they eat (probably over-eat to compensate) and don't show any real signs of illness. If your cat seems to be breathing more rapidly than usual, is eating well but losing weight and possibly drinking/peeing more than usual, you should get him checked out by your vet.
I have one cat that is almost completely bald… she only has the undercoat. so she use to be black and now is gray.
I have 2 different blood tests done by 2 diffent vets and they couldn't find the cause. All systems and % were just where they were suppose to be… she eats like a horse… and is fine (except for the fact that she is 20)
now in winter she has to wear sweaters or Baby T shirts…
Cats believe WE were cats at one time and then we lost our hair and lost our ability to see at night … so maybe she is just becoming more human.
There was one article I read though and it said something about having problems with thier pancrias… but I ca't find the article again so don't know if that is true…
Our cat had the same problem, it turned out that she was allergic to the dye in her food. we have put her on a dye free food and all her hair has grown back.
